Mystic Theatre brings dance, music and poetry to the Tribeca Playhouse with the Off-Broadway opening of Tortoise Shout on Jan. 20. The limited two-week run ends Jan. 29. Tortoise Shout is described by production sources as a movement theater piece featuring the poetry of D.H. Lawrence, Anne Sexton and others.

Mystic Theatre, which has produced Murder in the Cathedral and Dominica’s Smile, is presenting the new multimedia performance work which is said to be centered on the poetry of D.H. Laurence. Verses from other poets include passages by Ted Hughes, Thomas Lynch, Anne Sexton, and e e cummings. Eight actors interpret these poems through readings, movement and song.

Mystic Theatre artistic director Mark Bloom helms the production which comprises actors Don Arup, Eric Hanson, Catherine Ho, Phil Kasper, Victoria Malvagno, Andrea Miskoff, Sarah Paulding and Laurie True.

The production team includes choreographer Skip Costa, set designer Katarina Fiore, lighting designer Bill Kneisl and original music by Kurt Vega.
