News Nail in the Coffin: Evil Dead: The Musical Ends Off-Broadway Feb. 17 The new musical comedy Evil Dead: The Musical plays its final performance Off-Broadway Feb. 17. Plans for a tour and regional productions are in the works, and a cast recording is forthcoming.

By the end of its run, Evil Dead will have played 126 regular performances and 34 previews. The show ends at the 11 PM performance.

Jenkay LLC, Jeffrey Latimer Entertainment and Just For Laughs Live presented the "killer musical," which began previews Oct. 2, 2006, and opened Off-Broadway Nov. 1.

"Evil Dead: The Musical unearths the old familiar story," reveals a press release, "[where] boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive."

Christopher Bond and Tony Award winner Hinton Battle ("Dreamgirls," "Idlewild") directed the work, which features a book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, music by Frank Cipolla, Bond, Melissa Morris and Reinblatt with music supervision by Cipolla.

The cast includes Ryan Ward (as Ash), Jennifer Byrne (Linda), Jenna Coker (Cheryl), Christy McIntosh (Annie/ Shelly), Tom Walker (Ed/ Moose), Brandon Wardell (Scott), Ryan Williams (Fake Shemp) and Darryl Winslow (Jake). The cast went into the studio Dec. 17 to record the original cast album on the Time Life label. The release is slated for this spring.

The design team featured David Gallo (set), Cynthia Nordstrom (costumes), Jason Lyons (lighting) with Peter Fitzgerald and Kevin Lacy (sound) and Louis Zakarian (makeup and special effects).
