Les Waters, who also staged the world premiere of Ruhl's In the Next Room… or the vibrator play at Berkeley Rep and on Broadway, directs Three Sisters, which played Berkeley Rep last spring. It will officially open at Yale Rep Sept. 22 for a run through Oct. 8.

Ruhl's adaptation had its world premiere under the direction of Tony Award winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd, Company) in 2009 at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

The Yale Rep cast includes Natalia Payne (Masha), Wendy Rich Stetson (Olga), and Heather Wood (Irina) in the titular roles, with Josiah Bania (Rode), James Carpenter (Chebutykin), Richard Farrell (Ferapont), Emily Kitchens (Natasha), Bruce McKenzie (Vershinin), Alex Moggridge (Andrei), Barbara Oliver (Anfisa), Keith Reddin (Kulygin), Thomas Jay Ryan (Tuzenbach), Brian Wiles (Fedotik) and Sam Breslin Wright (Solyony). All of the cast, with the exception of Bania and Wiles, appeared in the Berkeley Rep run.

Three Sisters has set design by Annie Smart, costume design by Ilona Somogyi, lighting design by Alex Nichols, sound design by David Budries and musical direction by Julie Wolf. Rachel Steinberg is dramaturg, with James Mountcastle as stage manager.

According to Yale Rep, "Transplanted from their beloved Moscow to a provincial Russian town, three sisters—school teacher Olga, unhappily married Masha, idealistic Irina, – yearn for the city of their childhood, where they imagine their lives will be transformed and fulfilled. Three Sisters is the portrait of a family grappling with the bittersweet distance between reality and dreams." Ruhl earned a Tony nomination for In the Next Room and is the author of the plays Dead Man's Cell Phone, Eurydice, The Clean House, Passion Play and Orlando.

Yale Rep tickets are available by visiting YaleRep, by calling (203) 432-1234 or by visiting the Yale Rep box office (1120 Chapel Street).
