The NT Live production of The Cherry Orchard, a version by Andrew Upton, is directed by Howard Davies.

The Cherry Orchard stars Zoë Wanamaker ("Harry Potter") and will screen at theatres in the New York City area, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), NYU’s Skirball Center, City Cinema 123, Kew Gardens Cinema, Fairfield University (CT) and the Shakespeare Theatre Company (DC), the Music Box Theater in Chicago and Downtown Independent in Los Angeles, Amherst Cinema in MA, the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, SIFF Cinema in Seattle, and others.

Set at the very start of the twentieth century, The Cherry Orchard, according to press notes, "captures a poignant moment in Russia’s history as the country rolls inexorably towards 1917. Ranyevskaya returns more or less bankrupt after ten years abroad. Luxuriating in her fading moneyed world and regardless of the increasingly hostile forces outside, she and her brother snub the lucrative scheme of Lopakhin, a peasant turned entrepreneur, to save the family estate. In so doing, they put up their lives to auction and seal the fate of the beloved orchard."

National Theatre Live is an initiative by the UK’s National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world.

Following The Cherry Orchard, season three of NT Live will launch Sept. 15 with Richard Bean’s One Man, Two Guvnors, starring James Corden.
