According to an Equity casting/audition notice, a touring production of the Michael Mayer-directed musical, with a score by Green Day, lyrics by front man Billie Joe Armstrong and libretto co-written by Mayer and Armstrong, will rehearse in the summer for an autumn launch.

No casting or dates have been announced for the tour, produced by Broadway producers Tom Hulce, Ira Pittelman and partners.

American Idiot, now at Broadway's St. James Theatre and starring Armstrong as St. Jimmy (through Feb. 27, followed by Davey Havok in the role), has choreography by Steven Hoggett and musical supervision by Tom Kitt. Kevin Adams and Christine Jones won Tony Awards for their scenic and lighting design, respectively.

The musical had its world premiere in fall 2009 in Green Day's old stomping ground: Berkeley, CA, at Berkeley Rep.

Mayer (a previous Tony winner for Spring Awakening) won the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Best Direction of a Musical for American Idiot. The musical was nominated for a 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical.
