Catch Me If You Can, with a score ranging from Sinatra-styled swing to R&B, was written by Tony-winning Hairspray and "Smash" songwriters Marc Shaiman (music/lyrics) and Scott Wittman (lyrics) and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally (book).
The non-Equity tour plays the Providence Performing Arts Center through Oct. 14. Additional cities on the tour include Memphis, San Antonio, Nashville, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Sarasota, Pittsburgh, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Hartford and Las Vegas.
Anthony (Legally Blonde, Hairspray) and Janes (Shrek, Beauty and the Beast) are joined by Aubrey Mae Davis as Brenda Strong, Dominic Fortuna as Frank Abagnale, Sr., Caitlin Maloneyas Paula Abagnale, Amy Burgmaier as Carol Strong, D. Scott Withers as Roger Strong, Travis Mitchell as Agent Branton, Ben Laxton as Agent Dollar, Derrick Parks as Agent Cod, Esther M. Antoine, Amanda Braun, Ashley Chasteen, Taylor Collins, Vanessa Dunleavy, Michael Graceffa, Colleen Hayes, Mary Claire King, Trevor Leaderbrand, Casey Renee Rogers, Daniel J. Self, Allyson Tolbert, Nadia Vynnytsky and Bradley Allan Zarr.
Tony-winning director Jack O'Brien and Tony-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell repeat their work on the tour. Also represented are the original physical production by scenic designer David Rockwell and lighting designer Kenneth Posner. Costumes are by William Ivey Long. Sound design is by Peter McBoyle.
The musical was based on the Dreamworks film of the same title and the autobiography by Frank Abagnale Jr. and Stan Redding. Aaron Tveit starred as Abagnale Jr. in the Broadway production opposite Norbert Leo Butz as Hanratty. Set within the frame of a 1960s television variety show, Catch Me If You Can concluded its Broadway run Sept. 4, 2011, after 32 previews and 170 regular performances. It opened April 10, 2011, at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Catch Me If You Can earned Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Best Actor (Norbert Leo Butz), Best Sound Design (Steve Canyon Kennedy) and Best Orchestrations (Marc Shaiman & Larry Blank). Butz took home the 2011 Best Actor Tony Award.
Catch Me If You Can "captures the astonishing true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer, and a jet pilot — all before the age of 21. With straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty on Frank's trail, we're off on a jet-setting, cat-and-mouse chase, as a jazzy, swinging-sixties score keeps this adventure in constant motion. In the end, Agent Hanratty learns he and Frank aren't so very different after all, and Frank finds out what happens when love catches up to a man on the run."
