News Nat'l Association of Artists' Organizations Meets June 22-25, in Brooklyn The National Association of Artists' Organizations (NAAO) will hold its 12th National Conference from June 22 - 25 in Brooklyn.

The National Association of Artists' Organizations (NAAO) will hold its 12th National Conference from June 22 - 25 in Brooklyn.

"OPEN SOURCE: [sic] Networking Artists and Artists' Organizations" will give some 300 member organizations a forum to explore "the economies of information, current forms of art activism, "Do It Yourself" art strategies, new technologies, tipping points and more."

The scheduled keynote speakers at Open Source include BAM local development president Harvey Lichteinstein, Creative Capital executive director Ruby Lerner and National Endowment of the Arts chairman Bill Ivey.

Open Source's press materials describe a comprehensive road show for those interested in managing and strategizing arts organizations. Numerous prominent speakers, discussions and case studies are planned.

According to prepared materials, the conference comprises: • Source Code, a series of panel presentations and breakout sessions. Speakers include Malcolm Gladwell, author of "The Tipping Point"; Josephine Ramirez, Getty Grant Program, LA; curator Hamza Walker, Renaissance Society, Chicago, film and video maker Gregg Bordowitz, artist groups (R) TMark, Third Eye Movement, and more.
• Hot Stuff, a series of five programs designed to showcase hundreds of artists and organizations dedicated to artist-centered culture.
• Hot Tours. Featuring excursions to Harlem, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.
• Open Williamsburg Art Walk
• Cocktails in the Brooklyn Bridge, hosted by Creative Time
• Saturday Night Bash hosted by Smack Mellon Studios.

In a sample conference highlight called Hot Stuff, NAAO will present:

• Hot House: Five-minute presentations by NAAO organizations showcasing their recent activities. Includes a Hot House event specifically for younger arts organizations either started by or affiliated with participants in NAAO's Co-Generate Project.

• Hot Tours: Art Shuttle bus tours of Harlem, the Bronx, Queens & Staten Island.

• Hot Cam: A one-hour program of videos made by artists from across the country.

• Hot Match: Two simultaneous slide shows, one of artists' works and the other of empty exhibition spaces, will run on-site at the conference, in-between sessions and at informal gatherings.

• Hot Web: Experience the latest digital, on-line art projects at Smack Mellon's Cyber Cafe.

The OPEN SOURCE's conference headquarters is Gale Gates, located at 37 Main Street, Brooklyn. Registration for full conference tickets will be at Gale Gates from 12-6 PM on Thur., June 22 and from 7:45 - 9:30 AM on Fri., June 23. For information visit www.naao.org.
