News NBC Picks Up Laura Benanti Pilot, "The Playboy Club" Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, who is a 2011 Tony nominee for her performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, will be seen on the small screen this fall.

"The Playboy Club," the new series that features Benanti, has been picked up by NBC, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The drama, according to the industry paper, "revolves around working-class bunnies (Amber Heard, Jenna Dewan) and the men who love them (Eddie Cibrian) in the 1960s, where crooners, mob bosses, politicians and Chicago's elite play." Benanti plays a singer in the Playboy Club.

Executive producers are Chad Hodge and Brian Grazer. Alan Taylor directed the pilot.

It was also previously reported that NBC has given the green light to the Broadway-themed "Smash," which concerns the creation of a new musical.

Initial air dates for "Smash" and "The Playboy Club" have yet to be announced. Benanti received her Tony Award for Gypsy and most recently appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Additional Broadway credits include In the Next Room, The Wedding Singer, Nine, Into the Woods, Swing! and The Sound of Music. Off-Broadway credits includes Why Torture Is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them; Gypsy; Wonderful Town; and Time and Again, among others.
