NBC’s hit revival of Will & Grace, which returned in 2017 as a special single season event, will end after its upcoming third season. The final 18 episodes in the series will begin airing in 2020, with an exact premiere date to be announced.

The show’s original, Emmy Award-winning foursome—Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally (all Broadway alums, with Messing slated to return later this season in Birthday Candles)—returned for the original 12-episode order, which NBC later extended two additional seasons.

Max Mutchnick and David Kohan created and executive produced the hit series that ran for eight seasons on NBC from 1998 to 2006, earning 83 Emmy Award nominations along the way, and winning 16 of them, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Each of the show’s four stars were also Emmy-honored for their work.

In 2017 the network announced plans to air a special 12-episode season starring all four originals, along with Emmy-winning original series director James Burrows. The reboot’s popularity prompted NBC to film two additional seasons.

Numerous theatre actors have made guest appearances in the current run, including Ben Platt, Bobby Cannavale, Alec Baldwin, Andrea Martin, Matt Bomer, Adam Driver, Jon Cryer, Minnie Driver, and Molly Shannon, who was Emmy-nominated for recreating her character Val.
