News Neil LaBute May Direct New Film "Lakeview Terrace" Starring Samuel L. Jackson Playwright Neil LaBute is in talks to direct the new Screen Gems film "Lakeview Terrace," starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ashton Kutcher is also in talks to possibly co-star in the work which begins filming in Los Angeles in June, the trade mag reports. The film centers on an L.A.P.D. officer (Jackson) who seeks to drive away his new neighbors, an interracial couple (Kutcher and Washington). David Loughery penned the screenplay with Howard Korder set to rewrite.

Will Smith and James Lassiter are attached as producers via their company Overbrook Entertainment. Loughery and Jeff Graup will serve as executive producers.

LaBute — known to theatre audiences for his stage works — has previously directed his screenplays to "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends & Neighbors," "Nurse Betty," "Bash," "Possession" and "The Shape of Things." His recent plays include Some Girl(s), This is How It Goes, Fat Pig, The Distance From Here and The Mercy Seat. The director-screenwriter of the recent remake of "The Wicker Man" also recently saw his Wrecks , starring Ed Harris, play at the Public Theatre. Next up, his In a Dark, Dark House will play Off-Broadway at MCC Theatre.
