News Neil Patrick Harris Directs Hollywood Cast in Reading of I Am Grock July 17 A cast of Hollywood talent has been assembled for the July 17 reading of Amanda Rogers' I Am Grock, directed by Neil Patrick Harris.

Included in the private reading are Kurtwood Smith ("That 70's Show"), Justine Bateman ("Family Ties," "Men in Trees"), Susan Sullivan ("Falcon Crest," "Dharma and Greg"), Ming-Na ("ER," "Vanished"), Mo Collins ("Mad TV"), Michael McDonald ("Mad TV," "Scrubs") and K Callan ("Desperate Housewives," "How I Met Your Mother").

According to press notes, I Am Grock "looks at a monumental moment in the life of Phoebe Broman, a family therapist, mother and author. Her successful new book promoting raw, uncensored honesty within families has netted her an interview on a national news broadcast. However, things go awry when her entire extended family shows up at her front door an hour before the interview. Phoebe is left with no choice but to heal her own family before the newswoman and cameras arrive."

Harris makes his directorial debut with the private staging.

Neil Patrick Harris' Broadway credits include Assassins, Proof and Cabaret as well as the L.A. company of Rent, the Reprise! and New York Philharmonic productions of Sweeney Todd and the London mounting of tick, tick . . . BOOM! Harris is also well known for his television work on "How I Met Your Mother" and "Doogie Howser, M.D."

Playwright Amanda Rogers wrote, directed and produced the PBS documentary "Behind the Scenes with Groucho," currently airing nationally. For the theatre she wrote and directed By George, a play about the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright George S. Kaufman, which premiered at Philadelphia's historic Walnut Street Theatre. She wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Naked on Broadway, which also debuted at the Walnut. Rogers has received critical acclaim as a writer/director for the long-running European cirque/cabaret Teatro Zinzanni, based in San Francisco and Seattle. The private production will take place July 17 at 7:30 PM at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, CA.
