Classic Arts News Netrebko Cancels Kansas City Recital Days after putting off her New York recital debut, star soprano Anna Netrebko has canceled a concert scheduled for Kansas City's Folly Theater on February 25, the Kansas City Star reports.
Through the concert's presenter, the Harriman Arts Program, Netrebko, who is primarily an opera singer, said that she did not feel prepared for the recital, echoing the statement she released about the Carnegie Hall recital, which was scheduled for March 2.

"I have sung very few recitals in my career," Netrebko wrote of the Kansas City concert, "and I do not feel artistically ready yet to present a recital program in this prestigious recital series which has seen so many important American recital debuts. I feel a strong responsibility to present only my very best to the public."

Both the Kansas City and New York recitals were to be accompanied by pianist Malcolm Martineau. According to Netrebko's web site, she has no other recitals scheduled for the remainder of this season.

The Harriman Arts Program plans to name a replacement for Netrebko by January 31. Ticketholders may call 816-415-5025 with questions.
