First presented and performed by Shawn (Aunt Dan and Lemon, "The Princess Bride") at the Public Theater in 1990, the 80-minute work has been adapted by Swedish playwright Lars Norén, and features French-Romanian actress Simona Maicanescu.

The production reflects a combination of the original text and Shawn's 2007 rewrite of the show. Norén directs The Fever, which will run through Feb. 3.

Here's how it's billed: "In this 'feverish' monologue written between 1985-1990 - but more relevant today than ever -- a wealthy woman from New York wakes up in the hotel room of a war-torn country and probes the foundations of her privileged life, unable to keep pretending that 'coats have no history, but just fall down from heaven with prices marked inside.' The humor is quirky, and the questions are unsettling. They are not meant to be answered, but to bring attention to the shocking landscape of social injustice through which most of us walk every day and almost all of us fail to see."

The production has lighting design by Jean Poisson, costume design by Chatoon and sound design by Sophie Buisson.
