The new David Leveaux staging of Nine stars Antonio Banderas making his Broadway debut as the show's focal character Guido Contini opposite a cast of women including Chita Rivera, Jane Krakowski, Laura Benanti and Mary Stuart Masterson. The production began performances at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre March 21 and opened April 10 for a limited run originally scheduled through June 29.
Banderas previously told Playbill On Line (May 14) he would stay with the show as would many of his co-stars — including Rivera, Krakowski and Masterson. Benanti, however, will soon leave the production to begin rehearsals for the upcoming Broadway staging of Richard Greenberg's The Violet Hour.
