Just as the news of Westminster Theatre's closure (on March 3) is confirmed, so is the fact that a children's theatre is to be built.
The Arts Council has granted the Unicorn Theatre Company £4.5 million to build a children's theatre. The new venue will be built near London Bridge, further adding to the range of theatres (National, Globe) on the southern side of the Thames.
The site, on which work will begin later this year (provided planning permission comes through, as expected, next month), is in Tooley Street: a clever move as the street is also home to the very popular London Dungeon, so parents will be able to combine a trip to the theatre with the gory pleasures of the Dungeon.
