Off-Broadway News New Comedy Breeders to Debut Off-Broadway Dan Giles’ Kennedy Center Award-winning hamster play will have its New York premiere Off-Broadway this September.

New Light Theater Project is set to present the New York premiere of Breeders, a new play by Ensemble Studio alum Dan Giles with direction by Jaki Bradley. Winner of this year’s New Light New Voices Award and the 2016 recipient of the Kennedy Center Award for Comic Playwriting, Breeders touchingly parallels one couple’s fears about having children with the anxieties of their pregnant hamsters.

In Breeders, Dean and Mikey are preparing to have a baby. Meanwhile, the two hamsters the men are looking after are abruptly pregnant with nine babies. The new comedy, according to producers, touches on “the cozy cage of mainstreamed queerness, the surprising variety of things that can fit in one’s mouth, and the tender savagery of ordinary devotion.”

Breeders will debut Off-Broadway at Access Theater September 21 ahead of a September 27 opening. Performances ares scheduled through October 14.

The cast will be made up of Alton Alburo (The Wong Kids in the Secret of the Space Chupacabra GO! ), Fernando Gonzalez (Omega Kids, Charleses), Lea McKenna-Garcia (Two of Us), and Jacob Perkins (The Inheritance, Miller, Mississippi).

The design team includes scenic designer Brian Dudkiewicz and lighting designer Oona Curley. The production stage manager is Nikki Castle.

Access Theater is located at 380 Broadway, at White Street, New York. To purchase tickets, visit NewLightTheaterproject.com.
