A producer, director, and, of course, an ample assemblage of playwrights will play pivotal roles in events sponsored by New Dramatists Alumni this spring.
*March 11. Renowned theatrical producer Alexander H. Cohen will speak about "The Producer's Changing World." The prolific producer, who's produced 100 shows on Broadway and the West End, was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame this year and even had an Off-Broadway solo with Star Billing.
*April 8. Actress-turned-director Lee Grant, a veteran of stage, film, and TV, will discuss "The Director-Playwright Relationship.
*May 20. Five New Dramatists alumni who've recently published books will share their experiences "In the World of Publishing." Bonnie Bluh, Laura Cunningham, Mark Kurlansky, Carol Mack, and Art Sainer will take part.
*June 17. New Dramatists alumni George Baxt and John Pielmeier (Agnes of God) address "The Craft of Writing the Mystery." Baxt is the author of 16 whodunits, and Pielmeier was just nominated for the Edgar Allen Poe Award.
The organization is also sponsoring four play readings:
Keylight, by Mark Druck, on March 4, about a has-been Hollywood star who encounters her first love when she returns to her hometown;
The Wig Lady, by Leslie Lee, on April 22;
The Remittance Man, by Joel Wyman, on May 6;
and Body Language, by Louis Adelman, on June 10.
New Dramatists Alumni is the association of former member playwrights of New Dramatists. All events are at New Dramatists, 424 W. 44th St., NYC, at 7 pm and are open to the public.
