The new work, written and performed by the band GrooveLily, will play at the southern California venue's Cassius Carter Centre Stage. Striking 12 blends the tale of a grumpy man alone on New Year’s Eve with the classic Hans Christian Andersen story of "The Little Match Girl." Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin and Valerie Vigoda — who comprise GrooveLily — presented the work as part of Theatreworks' 2003 New Works Festival at Palo Alto, California. The group's drummer Gene Lewin also performs in the work.
Ted Sperling directs Striking 12. The design team includes David Ledsinger (scenic) Shelly Williams (costume), Michael Gilliam (lighting) and Rob Killenberger (sound).
