Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Theater Group Ltd. is behind a major new production of Jesus Christ Superstar that will play three North American cities before landing on Broadway in April 2000. Directed by Gale Edwards, the show will open at an as-yet-unspecified Nederlander theatre.
According to a casting notice published in the trade paper Backstage, the production will play eight weeks in Toronto beginning Dec. 14, three weeks in Boston and three weeks in Chicago before opening on Broadway. The casting notice reported that Anthony Van Laast will choreograph.
Meanwhile a Gale Edwards-Anthony Van Laast production of Jesus Christ Superstar is continuing a tour in the United Kingdom, through Oct. 30. A press release for the U.K. tour says, "this production is destined to become the blue-print for future productions across the globe."
