News New Musical Play by Native Son Playwright Nambi E. Kelley Sets September Debut The Chicago-based Pegasus Theatre Company has announced that its 2015-16 season will kick off with the world premiere of For Her as a Piano. The musical play is penned by Nambi E. Kelley, whose stage adaptation of Richard Wright's celebrated novel Native Son received critical acclaim last year and was the Court Theatre's highest-ever grossing production.

For Her as a Piano, a co-production with Goodman Theatre and Chicago Dramatists, is set to begin performances Sept. 30.

Helmed by Pegasus producing artistic director Ilesa Duncan, the play will also feature music composed by Jaret Landon, who is currently working on the Broadway-bound First Wives Club: The Musical. Performances are scheduled to run through Nov. 1.

In Kelley's new play, a woman embarks on a journey to unravel her family history, in the process tracing the lives of three generations of women and weaving music, memory and magic.

"I am honored to reunite with Nambi Kelley – an extraordinary talent one of my favorite writers – and Jaret Landon – one of Chicago’s most prodigious musical talents," said Duncan in a press statement.

The season will continue with the 29th Young Playwrights Festival, a showcase of one-act plays written by local teen playwrights. Pegasus' spring production will be announced at a later date. All performances will take place at Chicago Dramatists, located at 1105 W. Chicago Ave. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit PegasusTheatreChicago or call Ovation Tickets at (866) 811-4111.
