News New Musical Zorro to Close at London's Garrick in March Zorro — the Musical, based on Isabel Allende's 2005 best-seller "Zorro: A Novel," will shutter at London's Garrick Theatre March 14. It was originally booking to Sept. 12.

The show, which opened officially on July 15, 2008, received five Laurence Olivier Award nominations, including one for Best New Musical as well as for its stars Emma Williams (Best Actress in a Musical), Matt Rawle (Best Actor in a Musical) and Lesli Margherita (Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical). Choreographer Rafael Amargo has also been nominated for Best Theatre Choreographer. According to press materials, the show's "success in London has paved the way for several confirmed future international productions of Zorro in France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Korea and Russia. It is scheduled to open in Paris at the Folies Bergère in October 2009."

Zorro - the Musical, according to press notes, "promises to retell the dramatic tale of a romantic hero with extraordinary aerial acrobatics, spectacular sword-fighting and incredible magic – all set to the famous red-hot Gipsy King beat brought to the UK stage with the authentic colours of traditional Flamenco." Zorro is the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega, a fictional wealthy caballero and master swordsman living in Spanish California, who defends the people of the land against injustice.
