News New Play Sixteen Wounded Headed for Broadway Eliam Kraiem's play Sixteen Wounded, which made its world premiere at the Long Wharf Theatre with Academy Award-winner Martin Landau earlier this year, is headed for Broadway, a production spokesman told Playbill On-Line.

Set in modern-day Holland, Sixteen Wounded traces the unlikely friendship between a Jewish baker and his young Palestinian apprentice. The stagework is the first play by the rising scribe Kraiem. Landau headed up the cast of the New Haven, Connecticut staging under the direction of Matt August. Omar Metwally, Mia Barron, Gretchen Becker, Ed Setrakian, Jimi Egan, Bret A. Haines, Rebecka Jones and Ryan Evans Kessler also appeared. No word on whether Landau will reprise his role for the Broadway run.

Landau, who won his Oscar for portraying Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood," most recently appeared on the silver screen in "The Majestic" opposite Jim Carrey. When he was in his twenties, Landau studied with Lee Strasberg's Actor's Studio, going on to perform on Broadway in Goat Song, Stalag 17, First Love, The Penguin and Middle of the Night. His performance in the latter's national tour led to a Hollywood career, which has included the films "North by Northwest," "The Greatest Story Every Told," "Cleopatra," "Tucker: A Man and His Dream" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors" and TV's "Mission: Impossible."
