New Production of Acclaimed One-Man Play Dirt Will Open at 4th Street Theatre | Playbill

News New Production of Acclaimed One-Man Play Dirt Will Open at 4th Street Theatre Christopher Domig will star in Robert Schneider's one-man play Dirt – directed by Mary Catherine Burke – in a new production at the 4th Street Theatre (83 E. 4th Street) set to open Sept. 18.

Domig will reprise the role he played across the world, and returns to New York with the production for which he won Best Actor at the FringeNYC.

Dirt is produced by Dreck Theatre Ensemble and will run through Oct. 12.

Here's how the play is billed, "Dirt is a powerful drama about racism and the havoc it wreaks upon the human soul. This haunting and at times funny 70-minute drama tells the story of Sad, a desperately-alienated illegal immigrant from Iraq, living on the fringes of Western society. Charming and humorous, yet cynical and violent, he confronts xenophobia and latent racism as he peddles roses to eke out an existence. Issues of identity, anti-foreign sentiment and self-worth are brought to life through the character's disturbing psychological self-portrait."

According to press notes, "upon Dirt’s original publication in 1993...it went on to become the most frequently-performed solo show in Austria, Germany and Switzerland in the 1990ʼs. Domig introduced it to English-speaking audiences in this translation by Paul Dvorak."

The production will feature set design by Edward K. Ross, lighting design by Dan Jobbins and costume design by Hunter Kaczorowski. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at BrownPaperTickets.com.
