News New Song By LaChiusa and Parks Presented in 365 Plays Project Feb. 16-17 A new song by Michael John LaChiusa and Suzan-Lori Parks will be presented as part of the Week 14 presentation of Parks' 365 Plays/365 Days project on Feb. 16-17.

The Drama League Directors Project is presenting Week 14 at Joe's Pub on Feb. 16 at 11:30 PM and Feb. 17 at noon.

Starring in the presentation will be Mary Beth Peil (Nine and The King and I on Broadway), Peter Gerety (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Parks' Fucking A), Twinkle Burke, Carman Lacivita (Rose Rage), Sue Jean Kim, Kelly McAndrew (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway), Brian Nishii and Alex Webb.

Parks, a Pulitzer Prize winner for Topdog/Underdog, wrote one play a day for 365 days beginning in November 2002. Over 600 artistic organizations are producing the plays in several cities and regions all across the U.S. and Canada. In New York City, each week a different company takes a turn presenting a week's worth of plays.

Week 14 happens to include eight plays:

  • The Birth of Abraham Lincoln, directed by Sam Gold
  • We Were Civilized Once, directed by Matthew Earnest
  • The Butcher's Daughter, directed by Daniela Varon
  • Revolver Lover, directed by Rebecca Holderness
  • Pig Meat Farming Man, directed by Andrew Volkoff
  • You Wouldn't Want to Take it with You Even if You Could, directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh
  • The President's Day Sale, directed by Allison Eve Zell
  • The Day After President's Day Sale, directed by Michael Goldfried According to press notes, the plays include "a fantasia about the birth of Abraham Lincoln; an absurdist gun-shadowed romance (for Valentine’s Day!); a Billie Holliday-style blues singer's tribute to her new love, a pig farmer; and a Presidents' Day Sale unlike any other."

The presentation features production design by Jacob A. Climer and lighting design by Josh Bradford.

LaChiusa is the composer of The Wild Party, Marie Christine, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Hello Again, See What I Wanna See, Bernarda Alba, Little Fish and First Lady Suite.

365 Plays/365 Days is produced by Parks and Bonnie Metzgar and is curated in New York City by The Public Theater.

Joe's Pub is at The Public Theater, at 425 Lafayette Street. For reservations to Week 14, call (212) 244-9494, extension 33.
