Stage monologuist Mike Daisey will soon release the script to his new play taking on presidential candidate Donald Trump. He performed the work in Washington, D.C. and New York this summer, and Theater Wit will now host a staging of it in Chicago beginning October 5 through election night, November 8. Theater Wit artistic director Jeremy Wechsler will direct, but it has not yet been announced who will perform the show.
The script is being released as an “open source,” meaning theatres do not need permission to produce the work, nor do they pay royalties. They’re also in control of any changes.
A new solo show by Mitchell Frain, This Way Outta Santaland, will play Theater Wit's holiday slot November 23-December 23. Frain has played David Sedaris in the company’s recurring production of The Santaland Diaries for eight years. This Way Outta Santaland talks about Frain’s time playing the Sedaris role season after season.
In 2017, 10 Out of 12 plays March 3-April 23. The play by Anne Washburn and directed by Wechsler goes inside a tech rehearsal. This marks the show’s Chicago premiere.
First up at Theater Wit: the previously announced Naperville by Mat Smart, beginning August 26.
