The family-friendly New Victory Theater will open its 2016-17 season with the Jules Verne classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, directed by Rick Miller and Craig Francis. Using an array of puppetry, projection and online engagement, Montréal-based Kidoons/WYRD Productions is bringing the staging to New York beginning September 30.
Performances are scheduled to run through October 10.
The story follows Jules, a 36-year-old doctoral student whose favorite novel is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. While writing his thesis on the future of the earth’s oceans and mankind, he finds himself transported into the heart of his favorite story alongside Professor Aronnax and Ned Land.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is written by Francis and Miller, and directed by Miller. The show features Miller as Jules; Suzy Jane Hunt as Professor Claire Aronnax; Marcel Jeannin as Ned Land; and Richard Clarkin as Captain Nemo.
Kidoons/WYRD Productions has created accompanying digital content for audiences to enjoy at intermission and after the show, which can be accessed by visiting app.20kshow.com.
