Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon will be unable to finish a one-act ballet for the Royal Ballet, the company announced.

The work was to premiere in a program at Covent Garden on March 11.

Wheeldon is ill with a viral infection, and although he had started rehearsals with the company, he cannot finish the choreographic work required to finish the piece.

The revised program will include George Balanchine's Duo Concertant, set to music by Stravinsky and performed by Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg; Wheeldon's Pavane pour une infante d_funte, set to music by Ravel, performed by Darcey Bussell and Jonathan Cope (Mara Galeazzi and Federico Bonelli will make their debuts in later performances); and Frederick Ashton's Rhapsody, with music by Rachmaninoff.

Monica Mason, the company's director, said in a statement, "I am extremely disappointed for Chrsitopher and for the company that we will not be able to have this new work as planned. We all wish Christopher a speedy recovery and of course look forward to working with him again in the future."
