The Manhattan Theatre Club’s New York premiere of Qui Nguyen’s Vietgone, with direction by May Adrales, officially opens October 25. Inspired by the playwright’s own life, the story is billed as a “modern twist” on the all-American love story—about two refugees from the Vietnam War who are newly settled in a relocation camp in Middle America.
The cast is made up of Jon Hoche (national tour of War Horse, The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G), Jennifer Ikeda (Top Girls, Seascape), Raymond Lee (Farah Goes Bang), Samantha Quan (4 Wedding Planners, NCIS), and Paco Tolson (Peter and the Starcatcher at South Coast Rep).
“Borrowing elements from the world of up-to-the-minute popular culture to recreate the playwright’s own parents’ meeting, Vietgone ranges from hilarity to heart-wrenching drama,” state MTC press notes. The show is playing at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I Off-Broadway, where it began previews October 4.
