Classic Arts News Newly Formed Puerto Rican Ballet Company Names Artistic Director The Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico has appointed Miguel Campaneria artistic director, the company announced.
The San Juan-based Balleteatro Nacional was formed by former members of Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico after that company was paralyzed by a dancers' strike late last year. The new company performed for the first time in April.

The Cuban-born Campaneria was trained at the National Ballet School of Cuba and danced with the National Ballet of Cuba before coming to the United States. He has danced with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Pennsylvania Ballet, Harkness Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre, and was a principal dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Ballets de San Juan. He has been a choreographer and teacher since the early 1990s.
