News   Night Sky Gleams at L.A.'s Odyssey Theater, Feb. 19 The West Coast premiere of Susan Yankowitz's poetic and mystical drama Night Sky will take place Feb. 19 at the Odyssey Theater Ensemble, directed by Hope Alexander. The play, which will run for eight weeks, was inspired by and written for Joseph Chaikin, founder of New York's Open Theater, who suffered an extreme trauma -- aphasia, or speechlessness -- as a result of a massive stroke suffered during open heart surgery to replace a valve. In Yankowitz's treatment, a female astronomer receives a severe head injury and begins to experience both external reality and her own internal world in a singular way.

Yankowitz is the author of 1969 Terminal 1996, a collaboration with Chaikin and ensemble, and A Knife in the Heart and Under the Sun.
