Producer Gustavo Levit presents Nueve (Nine), a musical based on Fellini’s classic film 8 & 1/2. Directed by David Leveaux, and starring Juan Darthes, Sandra Ballesteros, and Luz Kerz, the musical shows the complex story of Guido Contini, a filmmaker who suffers a huge block in his creative capacity, due to the fact that he is stuck emotionally at age nine.
While Contini searches for the topic of his next film, he is haunted by the women in his life: his wife, lover, actresses, and even visions of his deceased mother. In his decision to shoot an autobiography, he is surrounded by visions, memories and dream-like fantasies from the past.
Since its first appearance in 1982 in New York, Nine has become a hit on the international theatre circuit. This version, directed by David Leveaux, is the same 1996 staging at London’s Donmar Warehouse, a more intimate and less spectacular version than Broadway’s. Leveaux himself, landed in B.A. to take command of the local staging. Arthur Kopit's book, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, was translated to Spanish by Fernando Masllorens and Federico Gonzalez del Pino, two specialists in adapting foreign plays. They are known for recent translations such as Angels in America, Master Class, and Art.
Nine runs at Metropolitan II Theatre -1343 Corrientes Ave., Buenos Aires- Thu/Fri 9:30 PM, Sat 8 PM and 10:45 PM, and Sun 8:30 PM. For ticketing information at Metropolitan II Theatre please call +54 (1) 371-0816.
