The statuesque chanteuse, best known to Broadway audiences for her Tony-nominated work in the original cast of Nine, will play the New York jazz space through Oct. 31. Akers will reprise her critically praised program, "Time After Time," which features songs by Stephen Sondheim, Alex North, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and Alan Jay Lerner. The singer-actress will be accompanied on piano by musical director Don Rebic. In addition to her work in the Tommy Tune production of Nine, Akers also starred on Broadway in another Tune-directed musical, Grand Hotel. Her feature film credits include "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Heartburn" and "Vibes," and she was seen in an episode of the hit TV series "Cheers." It's been the concert/cabaret stage, however, where Akers has garnered the most acclaim, performing in choice venues throughout the United States and Europe. Akers' recordings are numerous; her eighth solo recording, "If We Only Have Love," recently hit stores on the DRG label.
Le Jazz Au Bar is located at 41 East 58th Street, between Madison and Park Avenues. Akers will play Tuesday-Sundays at 8 PM with an additional show Saturdays at 10:30 PM. Cover charges range from $35-$50; there is no minimum. Call (212) 308-9455 for tickets or visit www.ticketweb.com.
