Following its extended run at the Beckett Theatre, No Child . . . will begin previews at its new home July 8 with an official opening July 16. With direction by Hal Brooks, the creative team also features Narelle Sissons (set design), Mark Barton (lighting design), Jessica Gaffney (costume design) and Ron Russell (sound design). No Child, according to press notes, "is an unflinching look into the New York City Public Education system. . . . [Sun transforms herself] into the teachers, students, parents, administrators, janitors, and security guards who inhabit our public schools every day and are shaping the future of America."
Nilaja Sun’s New York credits include Einstein’s Gift, Time and the Conways, The Cook and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl!. Her solo credits include Blues for a Gray Sun, La Nubia Latina, Black and Blue, Insufficient Fare, Due to the Tragic Events of... and Mixtures. Sun also worked in New York City’s Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, where Epic Theatre Center maintains an arts-ed residency.
The open-ended run is being produced by Barrow Street Theatre, Scott Morfee, Tom Wirtshafter and Epic Theatre Center.
