The Jan. 5 Grammy Award nomination for the London cast album of Chicago, starring Ute Lemper and Ruthie Henshall, had some people wondering if Henshall and Lemper might reunite on Broadway, where German songstress Lemper has been knocking them dead as Velma.

A spokesperson for the Broadway production of Chicago said there are no immediate plans to bring Henshall into the Shubert Theatre as Roxie Hart, despite a July 28, 1998 Playbill On-Line interview with Henshall in which she said she expected to be in the Broadway Kander and Ebb musical for at least six months in 1999. She played Roxie in the West End until November 1998.

The Lemper-Henshall Chicago disc was released in the U.S. July 28, 1998 and is Grammy-nominated in the category of Best Musical Show Album.

Henshall told Playbill On-Line in 1998 that she hasn't made the trans Atlantic jump earlier because she's been working so steadily in Britain and because of the difficulty of bringing foreign actors over to work in Broadway shows. She admitted,"Everyone on Broadway wants to do a show on the West End, while everyone in London wants to do at least one show on Broadway."

In London, Henshall picked up an Olivier Award for best actress for her work in 1995's She Loves Me and was nominated for an Olivier for playing Polly in Crazy For You.
