Noah Galvin on His Musical Influences and Singing the Dear Evan Hansen Score | Playbill

Broadway News Noah Galvin on His Musical Influences and Singing the Dear Evan Hansen Score Galvin and original Evan Hansen Ben Platt share at least one musical influence.
Noah Galvin, who stepped into the title role of the Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen November 21, recently spoke with PeopleTV about his musical influences.

The actor, best known for his critically acclaimed performance in ABC’s The Real O’Neals, shares at least one musical influence with his Dear Evan Hansen predecessor, Ben Platt: Grammy winner Beyoncé.

“I think out of anybody in the entertainment sphere of today,” Galvin said, “I'd say Beyoncé is the most consistent performer, and I hope to one day be as consistent a performer as she is.” Watch the video above to hear Galvin discuss his other vocal influences.

Galvin also spoke about singing the Tony-winning Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Dear Evan Hansen score: “It's a very rangy part. It's very belty, it's very high, but it's still really melodic. That's something that I really like about the show and like about the vocal stylings of the character that I get to play. There's so much variety within his vocal track within the show.”

Galvin has appeared in Off-Broadway productions at New York’s Signature Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, MCC, The Vineyard, The Public, The Culture Project, The Flea, The Wild Project, New York Theater Workshop, the Barrow Street Theater, Rattlestick, Ensemble Studio Theater, and more. He appeared in the world premiere of Ace, directed by Stafford Arima, at the Cincinnati Playhouse in 2006. In 2010, he originated the role of Dusty in Playwrights Horizons’ production of The Burnt Part Boys. (Dear Evan Hansen co-star Michael Park, who plays Larry Murphy, starred in that same production.)

On ABC's The Real O’Neals, Galvin played Kenny, a high schooler coming to terms with his sexuality in a tight-knit Catholic family. He put his musical theatre chops to work in an original song and dance about his character’s first relationship.

Dear Evan Hansen features a score by the Tony- and Oscar-winning songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story), a book by Tony winner Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex), choreography by Danny Mefford (Fun Home), and direction by multiple Tony nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then).
