News Nobody Loves You, the Musical Comedy About Reality-TV Romance, Will Get NYC Reading Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre will explore the Itamar Moses-Gaby Alter musical Nobody Loves You, a musical comedy about the pitfalls of reality-TV dating show, in a week-long reading in February, according to an Equity audition notice.

Second Stage, currently giving the Pulitzer Prize-winning Water By the Spoonful its New York City premiere, has not officially announced the musical reading or any plan for a full production. (Not-for-profits often test new material in private readings.)

Nobody Loves You had its world premiere in May 2012 at The Old Globe in San Diego, CA. Michelle Tattenbaum directed, and remains attached for the upcoming Feb. 11-19 reading in Manhattan. No casting for the reading has surfaced.

The show has music and lyrics by Alter and book and lyrics by Moses. The musical director is Vadim Feichtner. Casting is by Telsey + Company/Craig Burns.

The earlier San Diego cast included Jenni Barber, Alex Brightman, Heath Calvert, Kate Morgan Chadwick, Adam Kantor, Kelsey Kurz, Nicole Lewis and Lauren Molina. A former Globe Playwright-in-Residence, Moses is known for his plays The Four of Us and Back Back Back, which also had their world premieres at The Old Globe. Alter is a co-writer of the new musical Band Geeks!, which was produced by Ohio's Human Race Theatre Company in 2012.

The musical was billed this way when it played San Diego: "Nobody Loves You takes audiences on a hilarious behind-the-scenes ride through reality television and into real life. When Jeff [originally played by Kantor, of Broadway's Rent and Next to Normal], a philosophy grad student, joins a dating show to win back his ex, he breaks all the rules and tries to blow the game wide open . . . until he meets Jenny [originally Barber, of Old Globe's Some Lovers]. In a world where every kiss is staged for the cameras, can two people find a real connection?"

A 2009 Jonathan Larson Grant recipient, Alter has won awards from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle and the New York International Fringe Festival for his scores.

Moses' plays include Outrage, Bach at Leipzig, Celebrity Row, The Four of Us, Yellowjackets, Back Back Back and Completeness, the musical Fortress of Solitude (with Michael Friedman and Daniel Aukin) and the evening of short plays Love/Stories (or But You Will Get Used To It).
