As previously reported, an audience member was heckling the cast throughout the May 31 performance of the Williams classic — which opened in Old Town Newhall, CA, May 16 under the direction of Brad Sergi — and John Lacy, who played Big Daddy in the Repertory East Playhouse production, took action.

When the audience member called co-star Anton Troy a "fag," Lacy stopped the show and silenced the heckler, who was then carried out of the venue by another theatregoer in the audience.

"I went through our fake stage door, took off my vest, went into the audience — as he stood proudly to stare at me with a stupid grin on his face — [and] I pushed him, and he was drunk, so he easily just collapsed…" Lacy previously told Playbill.com. "Of course, I could have stopped and said, 'Could we have the house lights on, please? I'd like this gentleman removed.' But when you call my fellow actor a 'fag' in front of [the audience], it's not f*cking acceptable."

Producers fired Lacy, prompting lead Troy to quit the play in solidarity with his co-star.

Moved by the actors' courage, The Actors' Gang has offered their stage at The Ivy Substation to the production for a special one-night-only performance to benefit the NoH8 Campaign. The performance is scheduled for June 7 at 8 PM, and tickets are on sale here. A portion of the proceeds from the special performance will fund NoH8's mission to promote marriage, gender and human equality across the world.
