From the creative team behind Broadway's Side Show comes the world premiere of a new musical based on Alexandre Dumas' "Camille." With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics by Bill Russell, the tuner Kept will debut in California at the Mountain View Center. Stephen Chbosky joins Russell to provide the book for the production, April 10-May 5.
Described as a "La Traviata" with a disco beat, the story revolves around the passionate relationship between a young medical student and a woman. The lady in question, however, is "kept" by a heartless millionaire. The story set in 1980 features a contemporary score reminiscent of the Studio 54 scene.
Scott Schwartz will helm the production. The young director made a name for himself in the musical theatre this past year by staging two new musicals, Jonathan Larson's autobiographical tick,tick...BOOM! and the L.A. hit Bat Boy - The Musical.
The cast features Broadway notable Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde) and also includes Brenda Braxton, Will Swenson, Barrett Foa, Dennis Parlato, Karen Murphy, Emily Hsu, Brian Shepard, Nicole Ruth Snelson and Andre Ward.
TheatreWorks produces the musical by the team who also brought Everything's Ducky to the stage. For tickets to Kept, at the Mountain View Center in Mountain View, CA, call (650) 903-6000 or visit Theatreworks' website.
