Classic Arts News Nominations Announced for U.K.'s South Bank Show Awards Nominees for the South Bank Show Awards, the annual arts awards presented by the British television show, include composer Thomas Ads, chorographer Matthew Bourne, and Glyndebourne Opera.
The awards will be presented at the London's Savoy Hotel on January 27.

The nominees in the classical category are the BBC Philharmonic for its Beethoven Experience radio marathon, conductor Colin Davis and the London Symphony for its Beethoven and Tippett series, and Ads for his Violin Concerto, which got its U.K. premiere at the BBC Proms in September.

In dance, Bourne was nominated for his dance-theater piece Edward Scissorhands, based on the film; dancer Sylvie Guillem and choreographer Russell Maliphant for Push; and Ashley Page, the artistic director of the Scottish Ballet, for his work with the company.

The opera nominations went to Glyndebourne for its Guilio Cesare, English Touring Opera for Mary, Queen of Scots, and the Aldeburgh Festival and Almeida Opera for the premiere of Richard Ayres' The Cricket Recovers.
