News Nominations for 85th Academy Awards Announced; "Les Misérables," "Lincoln," Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway Among Nominees Nominations for the 85th Academy Awards were announced Jan. 10 by the show's host, Seth MacFarlane, and actress Emma Stone at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The star-studded film adaptation of Les Misérables — along with its two stars, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway — are among the 2013 nominees.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. ABC will broadcast the event live.

Topping the list with 12 nominations is Dreamworks' "Lincoln," the Abraham Lincoln biopic from Oscar winner Steven Spielberg and Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner, who received respective nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Also nominated for the film were Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor in a Leading Role), Tommy Lee Jones (Best Actor in a Supporting Role), Sally Field (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) and John Williams (Best Original Score). "Lincoln" was also nominated for Best Picture.

"Les Misérables," the starry film adaptation of the award-winning musical of the same name, earned eight nominations, including Best Picture. Jackman (Best Actor in a Leading Role) and Hathaway (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) were nominated for their performances as Valjean and Fantine, respectively, and Tony-winning songwriters Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil were nominated for the new song written for the film, "Suddenly."

"Les Miz" also received nods for Costume Design, Hairstyling, Production Design and Sound Mixing. 

Other front-running films include "Life of Pi," with 11 nominations, and "Argo," with seven nominations, as well as "Zero Dark Thirty," "Django Unchained" and "Amour," which each received five nods.  Other stage stars who received 2013 nominations for their film work include Philip Seymour HoffmanRobert De NiroHelen Hunt, Amy Adams, Denzel Washington, Naomi Watts, Bradley Cooper and Jessica Chastain, among others.
