Tony Awards Nominations for Tony Honors Now Being Accepted; Winners to Be Announced in September The 2004 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be awarded at a special ceremony on Oct. 26.

In 2003, a new tradition began for the Tony Honors, which were previously announced during the Tony Awards broadcast. Last year, however, the Honors were presented in the fall in order to give the honorees "their own dedicated moment." The 2003 Honors were awarded to the ten actors playing the revolving casts of La Bohéme as well as hair and wig designer Paul Huntley, Johnson-Liff Casting Associates and The Acting Company. Nominations are currently being accepted from theatre professionals for the 2004 awards. In a statement League of American Theatres and Producers President Jed Bernstein said, "We are delighted that the Tony Honors will once again be a stand-alone event, that can shed a well deserved spotlight on recipients of extraordinary achievement."

Howard Sherman, American Theatre Wing Executive Director, added, "Whether on Broadway, Off-Broadway or nationally, there is a remarkable variety of achievement in and commitment to theatre worth recognizing. The Tony Honors are our opportunity to celebrate that essential work."

Nominations must be received by Sept. 17, and the winners will be announced Sept. 23. Visit www.tonyawards.com/honors for more information.
