Nominations for the best of non-union Chicago theatre in 1999-2000 were announced May 1 by the Joseph Jefferson Awards' Citation Wing.

The 27th Annual Citation Wing Awards will be held June 12 at Park West. The committee announced 82 nominations in 16 categories, with Raven Theatre and Roadworks Productions leading in number of noms (with eight for each company). Porchlight Theatre received nine nominations, seven in association with The Athenaeum Theatre.

Circle Theatre finished next in the lineup, with seven nominations; Trap Door Theatre has six; and Bailiwick Repertory and ETA Creative Arts Foundation have five each.

Outstanding Production nominations went to Circle Theatre's The Crime of the Century, Trap Door's Lebensraum, Merrily We Roll Along by Porchlight Theatre in association with Fred Solari and The Athenaeum Theatre, Roadworks' Stupid Kids, and Raven Theatre's A View from the Bridge.

* The Citations Wing of the Jeff Committee was created to recognize outstanding achievement in professional productions of Chicago-area theatres not operating under union -- Actors' Equity, largely -- contracts. During the 1999-2000 Citations season (April 1, 1999-March 31, 2000) the Jeff Committee judged 111 productions from 55 producing organizations. The committee recommended 38 productions from thirty producing organizations, and the final list of Citations nominations represents 33 productions from 27 companies. The awards are non-competitive, and multiple nominees may receive awards in each category.

The Equity-oriented Jefferson Awards began in 1968. The non Equity Citations began in 1973.
