Ephron, the acclaimed writer-director known for the screenplays to "Sleepless in Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally" and "Heartburn," died at the age of 71 on June 26. She had been at work on the new play about late writer Mike McAlary, who was a columnist for the New York Post and the Daily News. Ephron worked for the New York Post early in her career and wrote about the experience in her final book, "I Remember Nothing."

Following Ephron's death last summer, producer Colin Callender issued a statement that he was committed to bringing Lucky Guy to Broadway, with Tony Award-winning director George C. Wolfe attached. The casting notice states the the role of McAlary has been cast. Academy Award winner Tom Hanks was previously reported to star in the role.

The play will begin rehearsals in mid-January 2013 towards a March 1, 2013, start of previews. The limited engagement will continue through June 16, 2013.

No official casting or dates of production have been announced.

Callender, Roy Furman, Arielle Tepper Madover will produce.

Lucky Guy, according to the notice, "spans the period from 1985 – 1998, when the tabloid business in New York was in its glory days. Small papers, big headlines. The city had become polarized between rich and poor, black and white, criminals and cops. The crack epidemic was beginning, the murder rate was at an all-time high. The city was loud, messy, chaotic and dangerous. The perfect place for a young and hungry reporter to become a star."
