Hollywood's deal making still centers around the lunch table, so it's at that meal that Peter Lefcourt has set his comedy, La Ronde de Lunch 2000, running through Sept. 17 at North Hollywood's El Portal Center for the Arts' Circle Theatre. Previews began Aug. 3 with an opening night of Aug. 12. Jeremiah Morris directs.
La Ronde de Lunch 2000 takes a farcical look at the infamous Hollywood phrase "Let's Do Lunch." The action centers on a trendy restaurant where a Greek chorus of waiters all named Bruce serve a cross-section of industry types making and breaking the careers of others and their own. Lefcourt, creator of Showtime's new series, "Beggars and Choosers," wrote for "Due South" and "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" and penned the novels "Di and I: A Novel," "The Dreyfus Affair: A Love Story,""Slap Happy Scandal" and "The Woody."
La Ronde de Lunch 2000 features no actual Bruces but stars Alan Altsbuld, Sydney Bennett, Whitey Broughton, Irene Chapman, Laurie Cole, Tony Edwards, John Hugo, Ryan Joseph, Lynn Lowry, Jonathan Mallen, David Mingrino, Joe Ochman, Karen Reed, Ron Reynolds and John Edwin Shaw.
Tickets are $20. El Portal Center is located at 5269 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. For reservations, call (818) 508-4200. Visit them on the web at http://www.el-portal.org.
