Rehearsals begin May 16 according to a tweet by the collaborators, who call the experience a "theatri-concert." Its earlier working title was And Now This Is Happening.
"Trying to write the freaking blurb is harder than writing the show," according to the writers' tweet on Twitter.
Now. Here. This. is written by Tony Award nominee Hunter Bell and Susan Blackwell, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen, based on collaboration by Bell, Michael Berresse, Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, Bowen and Larry Pressgrove. It has musical direction and arrangements by Larry Pressgrove and direction by Michael Berresse.
Vineyard's official explanation of the show will be announced shortly. Vineyard Lab Productions are "developmental productions which are closed to the press, giving artists and members a rare opportunity to participate in the birth of an exciting new work."
The meta-theatrical musical comedy [title of show] began at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and had a later staging by Vineyard, after which commercial producers moved the four-actor, one-keyboard operation to Broadway in 2008; Bell received a 2009 Best Book Tony nomination. Bell, Blackwell, Blickenstaff, Bowen and (pianist-musical director) Pressgrove were the performers in the New York incarnations of [title of show] (about creative pals writing a musical) and Berresse directed. The same creatives are at work again, only this time Bell and Blackwell share writing credit and all five performers (plus Berresse) share the credit that reads "based on collaboration by."
