News NPR Series Ignites Car Talk: The Musical!!! in Cambridge This Summer The popular National Public Radio show "Car Talk," where drivers from across the country call in for advice about things that go bump under the hood, has inspired a new musical that will debut this summer in Cambridge, MA, just miles away from the radio show's home – the Good News Garage.

Car Talk: The Musical!!!, presented by Underground Railway Theater and Suffolk University, has book, lyrics and direction by Wesley Savick (Einstein's Dreams) and original music by Michael Wartofsky. It was first presented in a 2011 developmental student production at Suffolk University. It will run June 14-Aug. 12 at the Central Square Theater.

The new musical also boasts cameo voice-overs by infamous "Car Talk" hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi, who dole out witty and helpful advice to drivers across the country with their weekly NPR series.

Here's how the musical is billed: "Our hero – the overweight, always-late invertebrate Rusty Fenders – has racked up as many miles as his '93 KIA. Attempting to salvage happiness from the junkyard of his life, he collides with his ruthless boss Beaulah Gasket, his unrequited office romance Sheila, and the red-hot fantasy car Miata C. LaChassis. Can the Wizard of Cahs put the brakes on Rusty's musical wipe-out?"

The cast includes Scott H. Severance as Rusty Fenders, Leigh Barrett as Sheila and Maureen Keiller Beulah Gasket. The ensemble includes Tiffany Chen, Diego Klock-Perez, Edward Tolve, Jonathan Luke Stevens, Christian Denzel Bufford, Elyse Collier and Sarah Crane.

The creative team includes music director Scott Nicholas, choreographer Michelle Chassé, Susan Zeeman Rogers (scenic designer), Seth Bodie (costume designer), Jeff Adelberg (lighting designer), David Remedios (sound designer), Sam Sewell (properties) and David Fichter and Will Cabell (puppetry).
