News NPR to Broadcast "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration" NPR will broadcast live "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at The Lincoln Memorial," which will be held Jan. 18 at the Lincoln Memorial.

NPR will present the entire event, which is scheduled to feature appearances and or performances by Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Jennifer Nettles, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington. The Rt. Reverend V. Gene Robinson will give the invocation. Lisa Simeone, host of NPR's World of Opera, will anchor the simulcast. NPR's special will air from 2-5 PM ET with the official celebration scheduled to begin lat 2:30 PM.

NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller said in a statement, "We're thrilled to bring such a historic event to millions of music fans on public radio stations across the country. It's a perfect opportunity for NPR Music to connect those listeners with the artists they love."

As previously reported, HBO has won the rights to broadcast the event, which will be attended by both President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Joseph Biden. The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be available free-of-charge not only to HBO subscribers but to anyone whose cable or satellite services carry the channel.
