News NSO Pops Season at Kennedy Center to Include Runolffson, Pedi, Arnaz, Klein and More The National Symphony Orchestra's Pops season at the Kennedy Center — under the direction of conductor Marvin Hamlisch — has been announced.

The 2006-2007 season will kick off Oct. 26-28 with Marvin's Monster Mash, which will feature the talents of The Phantom of the Opera's Anne Runolfsson and baritone Doug LaBrecque. Concertgoers are invited to "dress in [their] spookiest costume for this 'spirited' evening of spine-tingling hits."

Strike Up the Band: A Gershwin Brothers Celebration is the title of the Nov. 24 concert in the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall. The 7 PM evening will feature tunes from Porgy and Bess and Girl Crazy as well as George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris."

Happy Holidays! will be offered Dec. 7-10 in the Concert Hall. The holiday concerts will feature the Master Chorale of Washington under the musical direction of Donald McCullough. Attendees can expect to hear a mix of festive favorites.

Doc Severinsen, the long-time musical director for the late Johnny Carson, will be the special guest conductor for the Jan 25-27, 2007, concerts at the Concert Hall. The evenings, titled What's Up, Doc? An Evening with Doc Severinsen, will feature an eclectic mix of music, including the works of Ellington and Basie.

An evening of Broadway Divas will feature Jack Everly as guest conductor. The April 12-14 concerts will boast the talents of Christine Pedi and Cara Johnston with three other women to be announced at a later date. The concerts will include selections from Les Misérables, Dreamgirls, Funny Girl, Cabaret and Chicago. Original They're Playing Our Song co-stars Lucie Arnaz and Robert Klein will reunite for concerts May 31-June 2. Aptly titled Lucie Arnaz & Robert Klein: They're Playing Our Song – Again!, the concerts will welcome the return of conductor Marvin Hamlisch, who penned the score for They're Playing Our Song.
