NY Drama Critics' Circle Almost Picks a Musical

The New York Drama Critics' Circle passed out only one prize for the theatrical season just ended — to Horton Foote’s The Orphans' Home Cycle for Best Play. It played Off-Broadway at the Signature Theatre. The two Best Musical contenders were also Off-Broadway, according to one of the Circle members.

"The Best Musical prize went very, very close to the wire between Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and The Scottsboro Boys," the informant said. "They weren't tied, but the bylaws of the Drama Critics' Circle involve all sorts of pluralities and majorities and everything, and I think they're going to get tweaked in the very near future because no one was happy with the way it all turned out."
