News Nyack's Helen Hayes Finds Its Maria Callas for Upcoming Master Class The Helen Hayes Theatre Company announced that Lorraine Serabian will portray opera diva Maria Callas in the theatre's upcoming production of Master Class.

Serabian received a 1969 Tony Award nomination for her performance in the original cast of Zorba. She has also appeared on Broadway in Carmelina and the revival of the drama The Flowering Peach, and was seen Off-Broadway in Nunsense II. The Tony-winning play by Terrence McNally will be mounted at the Nyack theatre Feb. 22- March 9. Other casting for the Helen Hayes Master Class is expected shortly.

Terrence McNally's Master Class concerns the now-legendary classes that Maria Callas gave at the Juilliard School. The Broadway production cast Zoe Caldwell, who received a Tony Award for her critically acclaimed performance, in the role of Callas. Others who followed her into the demanding part included Evita's Patti LuPone and "Designing Women" star Dixie Carter. LuPone also starred in the London production of the play.
